This Week with TRG 09-13-2016 thru 09-18-2016

Good day to you all!!! Hopefully you have felt some cooler temps and have been loving the riding.

As I write this, the TRG / TCB (TRG Climbs and Brews) Crew is posting the route for tomorrow (09-14-2016). This week’s route is: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16557909. Here is the description from one of the madmen: “TCB V4 #25 – And now, for something totally different: This week we’re trying a new plan for TCB. Blair Bradford has graciously volunteered his office parking lot (thanks, Blair!) at 11671 Jollyville (just north of Duval), for us to use as a TCB base. We’ll meet there at 17:45 and roll out as usual at 18:00. Afterwards we’ll come back to the start and hang there for a little BYO get-together. That means everyone has to bring their own beverages, munchies and a chair. I’ll bring a bluetooth speaker for tunes. Parking Lot Party! :-) For the route, we’ll do a classic Lap Dance with a little extra: Start with a long loop that includes all of Rain Creek and then Bluffstone/Bluegrass, and then throw in 3 (maybe 4?) laps of the classic lap dance loop (Rain Creek/Lost Horizon).” Now doesn’t that sound fun, I mean sadistic…. Ha.

This weekend we will invert the Saturday (planned road) and Sunday (planned MTB) rides, switching days for a weekend, in hopes to gather support for the 1400 Mile crew. The 1400 Mile ride is a fundraiser for the “Probing on the Conversation of Prostrate Health”. They will depart on Sunday 09-18-2016 @0730hrs from Red Horn Coffee and Brew, weather permitting. Regardless if you cannot make the ride, please drop in, say hi to the guys embarking on this long trip, and pledge your support. We will be rolling with the guys and I will have two routes posted by Thursday cutting off from the main group at Liberty Hill and Bertram. Again, we will be rolling their pace, which may break up, or may not. Either way, it will be great to show support for the 1400 Mile riders, Red Horn Coffee and Brew, and representing TRG/The Peddler.

As of today, there are not too many orders on the TRG kits. With just over 26 days remaining, we need a minimum of 15 items per kit to go forth. Some may have noticed, we have added some MTB jerseys, race and enduro, to each kit. This is great news for the riders looking at doing The Rattler in April and some of the TMBRA races upcoming. Look for TRG and the Peddler to be a “fun” force on the MTB scene this year.

After Daylight savings, we are looking at doing a regular night ride out at Walnut Creek. This ride will take place on Tuesday evening and will consist of 1 to 2 laps of the Nutty Loop. Lights are a must!!! This serves as a heads up for those of you wanting a little more dirt in your diet under the cover of darkness!!!

Lastly, as we all know, riding a bike, especially in Austin, is, or can be, dangerous.  Other riders, cars, flats, and road debris are all the norm on any given ride. With that in mind, please be careful to ride within your abilities and be on the lookout for any road hazards. WE are all responsible for ourselves and how we ride, so lets make it as safe as possible.
Thanks for reading, and yes, its a lot to digest once again.
See you out there!!! TRG Admin!!!

This Week with TRG – 09/11/2016 Edition

Another week and yes, another ride. Hopefully everyone is recovered from a great Labor Day weekend. As mentioned last week in the newsletter, we will be offering the TRG Original (Black with new artwork mods), The TRG Tribute (Black and Pink a re-do of last year with art mods), and the TRG Summer/CX/MTB kit (Newest of them all, again with art mods). If you have any questions re: fit or colors, please do not hesitate to ask. In years past, if you ordered a kit the previous year or the current year, you were put on the roster for our sponsors. This year, we are changing this. You must order for the current year, which this order qualifies, to be on the TRG roster for discounts applicable to our sponsors. No one will be grandfathered in, so to speak. I will have a current roster after these links close, and the roster will be updated and given to all said sponsors for 2017. I appreciate everyone’s support throughout the years and I look forward to growing, having fun, and seeing everyone out there in the coming year. 2017 looks to be even better then all the rest, with new faces, new focus, and new items on the agenda.

This Week’s proposed route!! Yep, its ugly,, but on the brighter side, the weather is supposed to be a tad bit cooler. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16451512
There will be an intermediate group with the route being determined by the ride leader. It will be something simple, or so I am told.
Start times are 0700hrs from Walsh Middle School and 0725hrs from The Peddler in Avery Ranch.
Sunday we will be back at it at Walnut Creek Park MTBing. Meet up in the parking lot nearest the pool at 0645hrs with wheels rolling at 0700hrs. This is a fun, casual mtb ride with the goal of 15 miles.
As we all know, riding a bike, especially in Austin, is a dangerous proposition. Other riders, cars, flats, and road debris are all the norm on any given ride. With that in mind, please be careful to ride within your abilities and be on the lookout for any road hazards. WE are all responsible for ourselves and how we ride, so lets make it as safe as possible.
There are lots of rides coming up in October. Almost one every weekend!!
Here is a taste of what’s to come!!

2017 Trips and/or Events

As some of you know, we just wrapped up a trip to Vermont. We may or may not be doing this particular trip again, but there will be a trip in the works for the 2017 summer. Some have suggested MTB, others, a combo. Regardless of the trip or trips we plan, we were doing the math in Vermont, and if someone can stash $150 a month into a fund for a trip, you can pretty much make any trip we are looking at. This is just one of the items we will be round tabling in the coming weeks and months.

T-Shirts – Yes, we are finally getting T-shirts going. As of this newsletter, we are in the initial process of getting these done. They will be Next Level shirts with the basic design on one, and a little more detail on the other. More to come on this as we get closer to getting them finished.

Final thoughts for this week!! TRG has and always will be The Ride Group. Nothing more, and really, nothing less. I appreciate seeing our Jerseys out there in races and/or events, but really, as of now, and not counting this out for the future, we are not a race team!!! I train during the week, so I can keep up with most of you all. We are not really all that “Serious”, but do have fun with certain events throughout the year. With that said, Saturday’s ride, and Sunday’s too, for that matter, is all about having fun as a group and camaraderie. If you look at the make-up of this group, we have riders from all different backgrounds with one commonality, The Bike!!! This group was created so people could have fun, ride with a group, and enjoy friendships which probably would not exist if we all didn’t ride bikes. So no matter if you ride with the advanced or the intermediate group on any given weekend, the focus should be on staying and riding as a group, working together, helping each other out, having fun, and sharing the precious time with one another, for which we are not guaranteed.

This Week with TRG – Surface of the Sun edition

Welcome to another week on the surface of the sun (er, I mean Austin, TX). So, what’s on tap for the weekend in the devil’s own broiler?

Saturday 8/13: The ADVANCED route this week will take us out to Liberty Hill and then the always fun Lime Creek loop. The focus this week will be on speed (to get us back home and out of the heat quickly) and teamwork (because… teamwork!). Expect a spirited pace and short stops (1 at Liberty Hill, the 2nd at Lime Creek & Anderson Mill. See the route map). There will be no official Intermediate ride this week, so folks looking for an intermediate option, you’re free to do your own thang. As usual, roll out from Walsh at 06:30, and the Peddler at 07:00. Thx to the Ewok for the route inspiration.
Advanced Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15771787

Sunday 8/14: MTB ride at Brushy Creek. Meet up at 0645 and rolling at 0700 from the skate park lot.

In other news, as the boss mentioned last week, a re-order has been opened with Voler for our Tribute Kit (Pink and Black). Stay tuned for details on order dates and a link to put in your orders. In addition, links for the 2017 kits will be posted by the end of August, with a small preview. Expect something similar to what the summer kit had so you can see the design.

Stay cool, ride safe, and have fun!

F.
